My Journey to Soul Shine

Ever since I can remember, I experienced challenges with my health. Friends, bosses, and (most importantly) doctors made me feel like the symptoms that diminished my quality of life were “in my head”. Nothing is more invalidating to an overachiever and former athlete who couldn’t get out of bed. l felt defeated, stuck, and lost.

It took 14 years of actively searching to be correctly diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS), postular orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and degenerative disc disease.

But, it was the miscarriage of our first pregnancy when I hit my bottom with my health. We learned that the pregnancy was a partial molar pregnancy, and that I would need chemo to treat the abnormal tissue growth.

I started writing a new story.

I was finished playing the “victim” of circumstance and decided to take a more active role. I was accepting my journey.

I threw a chemo party, complete with bright yellow “chemo drinks”. Because what else do you do when a pregnancy you have worked so hard for (fertility treatment) results in chemo? I filled my house with love and laughter. And filled a journal full of love and support from friends. I was communicating my needs.

Then l began advocating for my health. l started using a cane, personalizing "her" with stripes and giving her the name “Candy the cane”. I started using a service dog, a handicap placard and the word disabled. I spoke up in doctor appointments and felt empowered making medical decisions.

I started asking for help. Trusting myself when I thought something was wrong. Realizing how resilient and STRONG I was. I started sharing my story, and realizing how many other people were experiencing similar challenges.

I found coaching and realized. . .

that with my background in HR, developing and delivering international trainings, and Masters in Education, I would be the perfect person to fill the void I had on my journey. I completed two coaching programs and became fully certified as a PCC coach with the International Coaching Federation (ICF).

Now, I run a business, helping others on their journeys.
